Smile Startx issue with Lenovo T550 intel 5500, screen not found

Hello,

I have installed the latest slackware on my new Lenovo T550 with a 3K screen and a intel 5500 graphics card. Everything went well until, I tried to "startx". "Screen not found" is my problem. I have tried to play a bit with the xorg config file but nothing changed. Do I have to install specific intel drivers ? For information, I am in EFI boot mode. And it is dual booted with Windows 10.

Thank you very much for your future help,

Bbruyne

When you say "latest Slackware", do you mean the latest stable version (14.1) or the -current branch of Slackware? With this GPU you definitely will want to run -current, 14.1 simply doesn't support it.

Yes, I am running 14.1. Is it simple to upgrade to the current branch of Slackware from 14.1 ? Or shall I better do another clean install ? Thank you so much for your quick reply! Bbruyne

An upgrade to -current is rather simple, but keep in mind that -current is a development branch, so thinks may break from time to time (though -current is pretty stable).
To upgrade to current follow these instructions:
1. Uncomment a mirror for Slackware -current in /etc/slackpkg/mirrors, if you have previously uncommented a 14.1 mirror comment it out again
2. Run these commands
Code:
slackpkg update
slackpkg install-new
slackpkg upgrade-all
slackpkg clean-system
lilo
After a reboot you should have a clean -current system.

Thanks, I ran into another problem. The kernel hasn't got a driver for Intel Corporation Device 095b (rev59). I can't connect to internet. When I type iwconfig. I get lo no wireless extension. What should I do ? I won't give up, I am more than motivated to get Slackware up and running! Thank you

If you have the possiblity to download on a different machine just grab the kernel from -current and install it.
