I fought with this for a while. Had to have the refresh rate from the manual but other than that I had to run the x86config from the terminal.

I still use the 9.2 distro so I am not sure on 10.

I had to cd into the directory "/etc/X11" and then type "./X86config" to run it.

Took me through a few different prompts for such things as my mouse and other stuff. But it did give me the option, after i put in the refresh rates, for 1280x1024.

Only way I could get it to work.

Tuttle , i commented out the resolutions and left only 1024x768 and i get that resolution each time, (well, each time i start xwindows, it still reverts to a different resolution which makes the image not fit the screen correctly, but before xwindows finishes loading, it reverts to 1024x768) so it worked , im happy, thanx :-)

when you say commented out do you mean you used a "#"?
If you did then please post your screen section again, or simply use the one I posted earlier:
Code:
# **********************************************************************
# Screen sections
# **********************************************************************

# Any number of screen sections may be present. Each describes
# the configuration of a single screen. A single specific screen section
# may be specified from the X server command line with the "-screen"
# option.
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen 1"
Device "** ATI Radeon (generic) [radeon]"
Monitor "My Monitor"
DefaultDepth 24

Subsection "Display"
Depth 8
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"

EndSubsection
EndSection
