I fought with this for a while. Had to have the refresh rate from the manual but other than that I had to run the x86config from the terminal.
I still use the 9.2 distro so I am not sure on 10.
I had to cd into the directory "/etc/X11" and then type "./X86config" to run it.
Took me through a few different prompts for such things as my mouse and other stuff. But it did give me the option, after i put in the refresh rates, for 1280x1024.
Tuttle , i commented out the resolutions and left only 1024x768 and i get that resolution each time, (well, each time i start xwindows, it still reverts to a different resolution which makes the image not fit the screen correctly, but before xwindows finishes loading, it reverts to 1024x768) so it worked , im happy, thanx :-)

when you say commented out do you mean you used a "#"?
