Kernel Panic + Harddrive Cant Be found

I installed slackware 10.1 about two weeks ago. I installed LILO to the MBR, and had some trouble with it (made my HD not recognized by bios yet it still was able to boot via LILO & Bootdisk). LILO stopped loading for some reason, so I have been using a bootdisk floppy for a while. (I am a linux noob and therefore I am posting this stuff even though it may not be related to the problem).

Problem started today after about 6-7 hours of my computer being on and had been running fine all day. I tried to copy some folders and files and it gave me a "Input Output Error" message, so I thought I should restart. After restart I get this msg:

Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 03:02

I have tried to find various fixes on the web, but I am unable to access that harddrive (hda2 using ext2) so none of the fixes i have found work.

Anyone have any idea on how to at least access the Harddrive? I tried just sticking in a windows xp install and even the xp installer says "No harddrive could be found".

Any help would be greatly appreciated at this point.

You could try with a live CD like Knoppix, Kanotix or Slax. But I suppose that you have a hardware problem (i.e. disk controller or harddisk broken) so you need to get your machine repaired.

It may not be a hardware issue. Try a live CD and run fsck to see if it can fix your problem.
