Cannot install programs, get error with missing file ??

When I try to install some programs or run xine or mplayer from command line I get this message:

error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Could this be caused by removing ssl?

when I do whereis libssl.so.0 it does not show up.

Did you remove it?

There are 2 packages openssl-solibs is a package so that programs that use the lib still work but doesn't have the rest. This may be what you want to install if you don't need the rest.

openssl-solibs is in diskset a
openssl is in diskset n

I copied the openssl-solibs.txz file to my HD then used pkgtool to install it but I cannot find the openssl file in diskset n. The openssl.txt and openssl.txz.asc file are there.?

Thanks.

Are you saying you have the gpg signature for the file in n but not the actual file? Your media may be stuffed if that is the case.

This is the listing from 13.37 32 bit a series
Code:
-rw-r--r-- 1 2000 2000 678 Mar 23 2011 openssl-solibs-0.9.8r-i486-3.txt
-rw-r--r-- 1 2000 2000 692272 Mar 23 2011 openssl-solibs-0.9.8r-i486-3.txz
-rw-r--r-- 1 2000 2000 198 Mar 23 2011 openssl-solibs-0.9.8r-i486-3.txz.asc
This is the listing from 13.37 32 bit n series
Code:
-rw-r--r-- 1 2000 2000 561 Mar 23 2011 openssl-0.9.8r-i486-3.txt
-rw-r--r-- 1 2000 2000 2335564 Mar 23 2011 openssl-0.9.8r-i486-3.txz
-rw-r--r-- 1 2000 2000 198 Mar 23 2011 openssl-0.9.8r-i486-3.txz.asc
Note that 3 files are in both directories.

Also your user info states Slackware 12.0, if that is the case you should grab the updated packages from /patches on a Slackware mirror.

I was able to get openssl-solibs installed and Mplayer now works. I dont know why the disk does not show openssl, It was installed from the same disc on the previous install and on this new install I did before I used pkgtool to remove it. But, mplayer now works. Thanks for the help
