NTLDR is the boot loader for Windows NT/2000/XP
I'm going to assume when you loaded mandrake, you didn't select the option to install the bootloader to the MBR.

Thats a very common message for if you've left a floppy in the drive as it's trying to find the boot loader on the floppy.

Could you walk us through, step by step, of what you did during your install?

I agree, linux isn't that easy, but it's not that hard either. Just take a deep breath, read some documentation, and go on with it. Once set up, linux can be as easy to use as windows (for everyday tasks at least) and run forever.
