This happens under slackware 13.1 32 bit and 64 bit. If scim-bridge is running, firefox will freeze the whole XWindows, especially when a pop-up window appears within firefox. Replacing scim with fcitx (Chinese only) input method solveed this problem. This annoyed me for quite a period even when I was using slackware-current because I did not know what caused firefox to behave strangely.
Why no one reported this problem? I think no one uses scim and firefox at the same time here.
That works for Qt desktop environment such as KDE.
Does not work if you run Fluxbox.
scim-1.4.9 will not build on Slackware 13.1 without a patch. It was
not rebuilt between 13.0 and 13.1 -- have patched scim-1.4.9.tar.gz
and it builds now.
scim-bridge-0.4.16 has bugs ... I will fix and release new packages and
patches in the next day or so ... providing it works with gtk2 in Slackware 13.1.
If SCIM no longer works with Slackware, will build and try ibus ... then fcitx.
If you're interested I've rebuilt scim and scim-bridge for Slackware 13.1
and now scim-bridge no longer segfaults. Also there is no desktop freezing
while using SCIM for me in Fluxbox or LXDE.
If you can build with these edited scripts or install the packages and test,
let me know if SCIM still gives you problems.
