mms stream problem

Hello! I have a problem playing a certain mms stream mms://85.17.2.144/sportfm7712 . Other streams i ve tried work well ( even mms) but not this one. I have tried totem (with xine and gstreamer), amarok and mplayer without any results.

I use ubuntu 6.10 on an amilo 7400 (centrino).

Thanks in advance!

Mike

mms://85.17.2.144/sportfm7712 works for me on Rhythmbox Music Player.

mms://best.live24.gr/best1222 does not work for me. Is the URL correct? I can go to www.best.live24.gr. It is a Flash Site and I can hear music. Unfortunately I cannot read Greek and don't really understand.

Well, it's hardly an effort free solution, but this sometimes works:
  1. replace the mms with http
  2. use curl on that URL
  3. see other URLs
  4. feed these other URLs to mplayer, xine, xmms

I had a similar problem with Nasa TV, for which I wrote a little script which you can adapt for you radio station:
Code:
#!/usr/bin/perl -w

use strict;

my $url1 = "http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/";
my @r;

print "fetching first page: $url1\n";
grep { m|(http://www\.nasa\.gov/\d+main_NASATV_Windows\.asx)|i && push @r, $1; } `GET $url1` || die "error fetching first page: $!\n";

my $url2 = $r[0] || die "failed to find .asx link in first page\n";
@r = ();

print "fetching second page: $url2\n";
grep { m/ref href=\"(http.*)\"/i && push @r, $1; } `GET $url2` || die "error fetching second page: $!\n";

my $url3 = $r[0] || die "failed to find link in second page\n";
@r = ();

print "fetching third page: $url3\n";
grep { m/\"(mms[^"]+)\"/i && push @r, $1; } `GET $url3` || die "error fetching third page: $!\n";

my $last;
foreach (@r) {
    print $_ . "\n";
    $last = $_;
}

exec "mplayer '$last'";

You need to have the GET tool installed. In Ubuntu this is part of the libwww-perl package.

Just changing the URL in the script isn't enough - this script is tailored specifically to the NASA TV feed.

I looked at the Best FM feed, and it looks much simpler, so I made this script for it:

Code:
#!/usr/bin/perl -w

use strict;

# note mms replaced with http
my $url = "http://best.live24.gr/best1222";
my @r;
grep { m|Ref\d+?=(http://.*)|i && push @r, $1; } `GET $url` || die "error fetching first page: $!\n";

exec "mplayer $r[0]\n";
Works for me with mplayer and xine - try different media players to suit your tastes.
