Try to install your ATi drivers manually (not using YaST) and follow ALL instructions. You must reconfigure your xorg.conf file in order to load ATi's module to get 3D to work.

Regardng your mplayer issue, re-compile (re-install) mplayer ONCE you have the codecs in /usr/lib/win32

Also do google search or the forum search, cause this issue has been explained/solved several times on this forum. A little search on your topics will pop up usefull howtos for you to follow.

Hammett, you nailed it. The ATI install must be done manually, using the command line tests and instructions shown in the ATI "New Installation Guide" walkthrough available with their drivers on their website(www.ati.com). It is a pain in the butt to trace down if you don't follow their exact instructions. For more info or details, check for acceleration or ATI and SuSE 10 int he forum search, if you can't get the ATI official drivers to work, there may be some help there, but it should work just fine.

You can use YAST to install all of the codecs and mplayer, xine, etc from packman. Just add the repository and then select the win32codec-all, and mplayer, and xine, etc. You should be set there. Check the SuSE forums on here to find many walkthroughs about getting video and mp3 and all working.
