I seem to be having trouble with vsftp version 1.2.2 This is my first time setting it up. I have downloaded the tarball did a make and make install and it seemed to work fine, when i ftp to that machine, i get a prompt asking for username and password and it typing in a nonroot user name and its password i always get a Login incorrect. I have verified my user name and password but loging in to that machine from a consle. I this is my vsftp.conf file.
anonymous_enable=NO
local_enable=NO
write_enable=YES
local_umask=022
dirmessage_enable=YES
xferlog_enable=YES
connect_from_port_20=YES
xferlog_std_formate=YES
nopriv_user=ftpsecure

I have no other configuration files, it looks like i only need this one. I am running redhat 7.3

try using username = anonymous

when using anonymous i get this error even before i al asked for a user name and password.
500 OOPS: vsftpd: cannot locate user specifed in 'ftp_username':ftp

it looks like you need to find somewhere to change the users who can access vsftp - since i dont use it, i cant help you. check in its faq or readme or something
