vsftp problems

Ok here's the problem,

I have recently set up a new Linux box for a server. I set up http server and tested it, works fine.

then i set up vsftp and tested it, works fine also.

the trouble is, I want to be able to upload my web site to the directory on the server that is displaying my web site. so i set up vsftp to use this directory and allow only users with valid username and password to log in and all that works fine as well but when i connect it wont let me upload, only download. any advice here?

Assuming that you have vsftpd properly configured to allow uploads for that particular user you may chrek if that user has write permissions on that dir

ok im not sure how to set write permissions for individual users on that directory. any tips on getting that accomplished would be great. and yes, i do have uploads enabled for the user im trying to get fixed. just to test that out i changed directories to a directory i know is writeable by this user and upload and download worked perfectly. just cant upload in the new directory.

I am refering to 'normal' write permissions, the ones you change with chmod.
If the given user wasn't write permissions in a given dir then he will not be able to upload to that dir even if so allowed in the configuration of the ftp server.

I don't know however if its a good idea to give write permissions for that dir as it holds a site served with apache .. I don't know apache very well so you should check that ...
