Try to setup a DMZ with your router, I had a similar problem with DNS and this helped out. Also Have you considered using your linux server as a Router? Just a thought. If the router doesn't work after setting up the DMZ, then you probably have a bad router, try buying another nic and setting up a Linux router.

What DMZ's are, hmm well lets start by saying that it is an IP you tell your router that if any communication comes in throught the net to go to this IP. Basically it is a way to port forward all ports to an IP without having to manually put in the ports source and destination. If you have a hardware router, just log into it and it should be under something like advanced. Make sure if you have DHCP setup through your router that the IP for the server is reserved for that machine. So that if you turn the machine off and after a while you log it back on the IP will still be that one instead of something the DHCP server setup. This can turn into a problem. Make sure you reserve the IP in your router.
About DNS all I was saying is that I had a similar problem with my domain name and the only way I solved it was to set the server up as a DHCP server.
Also I'm pretty sure that if you can get a regular ADSL modem, that you can just use the Ethernet and connect to your linux server and setup DHCP, and integrate a masquraded firewall. This would be just like as if you had the router, just plugged directly into the net.
Do you know if your ADSL uses PPPOE? If so that could set as another obsticle.
