MPlayer Sound Problem

I have just finished installing MPlayer for RedHat Linux 9, and I have tried the following, I have tried Quicktime Trailers and the video plays great, the only problem is there is no sound. The same problem persists with .wmv media. Spide-Man2.wmv plays great video but once again, no sound. I played and IBM Linux commercial, the one with the kid, and the video is great, but this time the sound plays. The Linux commerical is .mpg media. Why doesn't the sound work with quicktime movies, and windows media video?

When I attempt to open them through MPlayer, it says the following:

" cannot find codec for audio format 0x324d4451"

What does this mean, I do have esd enabled, and libao is installed, as well as the codes where they are supposed to be /usr/local/lib/codecs they are all in there.

And I would like a sample config for the ~/.mplayer config file. Mine just says to write my own configs, but I have no real ideo of what to put in there.

Thnx

Need some help

Hi,
I am sorry. Actually it is not the reply to ur post but I need some help on how to install mplayer in redhat 9.0. I got the zip file. Unzipped it and now I see a mplayer.exe file. I don;t exactly know how to run the application. Also, I have problem running the audio player which came with redhat 9.0. It seems similar to winamp but I am not able to add any fmp3 files to the playlist or play anything.

The soundcard seems to be working fine coz it makes sounds for various themes. What can be the problem??

hey dude, firstly you need to download not the Win32 version but the Linux version of mplayer. Download the RPM packages for Redhat Linux. And just run the following command:
rpm -ivh <name of rpm package>

But you can find good installation notes here:
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/install.html

They are very extensive =)

If you are looking for a good video player then i highly recommend Xine!
