- the best thing you can do is to reinstall your distribution completely. I've watched a few threads where guys have tried this (upgrading KDE ) and I've yet to hear about somebody doing it successfully. I usually avoid the "upgrade" feature of Fedora as well - it works much better and you'll have much less grief just reformatting the system and reinstalling a distro with an upgraded / new KDE version from first principles.
I have a simple rule of thumb as regards upgrades - if a new version of something does not provide some new feature that I absolutely need, I do not upgrade. This is espcially true if you need to use your box for work, not for play or experimentation.
