Angry Help Me!! Need help about libc.so.6 library

Hi,

I compile an in-house software on Ubuntu 11.04 machine, and then copied it to a HPC cluster with RHEL 5.4 system. Now, it gives this error when I try to run it on RHEL 5.4. "/lib64/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.7' not found".

Then, I have tried to download glibc2.7 RPM package from http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/se...uery=libc.so.6 . and extract the libraries from RPM package. Then, I point the my program to these libraries using LD_LIBRARY_PATH. Then, the program can run.

However, if I use the external libc.so.6 library, the most basic system command will be lost (for example, ls, mkdir, cp, scp....). This will also crash my program later. Due to some policy, I cannot compile my in-house software on that HPC cluster. So is there any one can help me to avoid this problem? So I want to use the external libc.so.6 without losing any basic command.

Thanks very much!

Cheers,

Perhaps you could set up a RHEL virtual host on your Ubuntu machine, and use that as the development environment for the RHEL target.

As you write here the external libc thst you have used is crash your program.
I think that compile the program on the same distro would take away a lot of headheac from you.
The above suggestion is the easy one.

Seconded. Build your program on same distribution where you age about to run it.

If setting build environment on another box is a problem, or you need to run this program on different distributions,
then you can try statifier (http://statifier.sf.net) or Ermine (http://magicErmine.com) to create self-containing executable.
