Ghoscript Error?

Whenever I try to run gs or use any program that uses ghostscript (KPDF, Lilypond, etc) they invariably don't work. Whenever I run gs in a command line, I get the following output:

Warning: the map cidfmap was not found.
Unrecoverable error: rangecheck in get
Operand stack:
0

I am running Debian Sid, with gs 8.15 from apt (the same thing happens with either the EPS or GPL versions).

Did you ever manage to resolve that error? I'm getting the same under Mandriva LE 2005 with ghostscript 8.15.

How can this be resolved?

After following a hint on the net, I deleted the file Fontmap in ~/.fonts (where GS_LIB pointed to) and suddenly, everything worked OK again. Strange, but true.
