Hard drive failure error? (sense key Medium error)

I received the following error on my console while I was performing some database work. Does this indicate a harddrive failure? From log file:

Oct 20 14:52:55 ibm8 kernel: scsi0: ERROR on channel 0, id 1, lun 0, CDB: Read (10) 00 00 a2 2f 67 00 00 10 00
Oct 20 14:52:55 ibm8 kernel: Current sd08:11: sense key Medium Error
Oct 20 14:52:55 ibm8 kernel: Additional sense indicates Unrecovered read error - auto reallocate failed
Oct 20 14:52:55 ibm8 kernel: I/O error: dev 08:11, sector 10628904

How do I interpret those messages?

The system has two serial-ATA harddrives which fedora treats as scsci devices IIRC. The system still seems to work fine however it has to be rock solid for its purposes. What can or should I do now? Thanks.

I've seen similar errors coming from a SCSI controller running on a Windows 2000 Advanced Server box at work. One of the 3 attached drives was about to fail and needed replacing. The drive was a Quantum, not sure if it's connected for you. The drive died soon after discovering the errors.
I'd start to back up important data and look for a replacement, better be safe than sorry.

After receiving this error it turns out the drive did eventually fail. I ran Maxtor's diagnostic software on it and got back an error code with instructions to replace it.
