Gaim not rasing windows to the front of everything

i'm not sure what this is related to, but its either gtk+, Gaim, or Gnome

i have set Gaim to raise the windows on events but the windows only get raised to the front of Gaim, not the front of everything like i would like, for example when i am using Firefox with Gaim behind it and i get IMed i don't know about because the window stays behind Firefox and i have no sound, but i know gaim is trying to raise the window because the IM window gets raised in front of the buddy list

so, how do i make it raise the window to the front of everything

I can suggest a workaround: try to launch gaim with alltray, a little program which can dock any app in a tray icon. It changes the app display.

nope i tried it, i get no popups or anything when i get IMed, all that has happened is i figured this is due to focus stealing prevention and i have read a bunch of stuff saying that is is great because you don't get an IM window so you dont type stuff to the people you didn't mean to, but i hate this, can't they just do what happens on my mac, let it steal focus but dont give it the keyboard until you click

either way i would much rather let Gaim/firefox steal focus and take the keyboard then find it did what i wanted an hour ago and not notify me, man i hate this

anyother workarounds?
