GAIM windows stop responding

I am running Fedora, and if I try and talk to people on GAIM, after a while the window will stop displaying... It will go blank. I can still click on menus and such, I just can't see them, and a blank gray box will pop up with no text in it, and when this happens GAIM will suddenly start using 50% of my cpu. Why?
