cli window manager for ubuntu

Is there a cli window manager for ubuntu 8.04 that completely disables the gui.

the reason i'm asking is for when i'm using a processor heavy application i can let it have almost 100% access to the processor and ram and not have loads of other things filling up the ram.

allso is it possible to speed up the processor.
thanks in advance

The wm by excellence for text environments is GNU Screen. However, by the tone of your post, I don't really know if you really meant what you wrote.

There's also twin:

Which programs would you be running in such a WM?

I'd use it when doing something along the lines of converting the format of video files.

Then it's fine. As long as you intend to use command line/text based programs only.
