uninstalling and reinstalling tcl

With a completely foolish move, that has taught me the value of su and sudo instead of root, I deleted my libtcl(8.3.so). I wanted to uninstall and reinstall it. I think I go to the directory that contains my makefile for tcl and type

./configure
su
make uninstall

then

./configure
(I think I do something else here)
su
make install

...is that close? Thank you for any help.

I think the command you're missing between ./configure and make install (or uninstall) is make. Also, you need to run those commands from inside the unix folder in the tcl source. And another thing, I think with tcl you need to keep the source after you've compiled it (I'm not sure why, that's what it says in the Linux From Scratch book and I believe them) so if I were you I would untar the tcl source somewhere where you won't notice it hanging around. /usr/lib perhaps?

I couldn't get that to work, but I did figure something else out. Anyone who has the same problem can fix it by first getting the exact rpm for the version you are using(good reason to save those rpms if you have space), then typing

su
rpm -ivh --replacepkgs [file_name_ver.#.#].rpm

this overwrites your packages. It does not work with an older version, I don't know if it works with a newer one.
