Hello all,
I cannot seen to install any .rpm packages, but I may be totally screwing up the process. I have been trying to install grip, and have the .rpm 'file' in a directory called mp3_stuff. In that directory I switch to root, type rpm -ivf grip-3.1.1-1.i386.rpm and tend to get a long list of failed dependencies. My computer connects to the web through a proxy connection if that makes any difference. I am using Linux version 2.4.18-3. An help is going to be greatly appreciated.

And installing those deps first didn't help?

Where do I find them? Does the fact they're not there mean they weren't installed with Linux on this machine? Should they be on the Linux cd's? (I didn't do the install on here, I inherited this box).

list the dependencies u are getting

depending on your distro, u should probably have some of those dependencies on your cd's, if not grip entirely

I am using Red Hat release 7.3 (Valhalla), and generally run my sessions using KDE 3.0.0-10 (but try and use RPM from the command line of a konsole).
The list of dependencies I get is rather long, but is as follows:

maybe you should consider getting apt-get which will take care of the dependancy issues...

I know that RedHat comes with these RPMs on the distro CD, so I am guessing that most other distros do too.

I use rpm -Uvh <package name> to install my rpms, that way if there is a previous version, it will uninstall and then make a fresh install (it just does a fresh install if no other version is detected). Have you ever had this app running before? if you had grip before, you should definitely not have this many dependencies. I upgraded to the newest version about 2 days ago and had one minor package to grab before the install

DrOzz, I followed your link to apt-get, tried to download the appropriate file and got a message along the lines of

Plugger: No approperiate application for type audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin found!

I don't understand! Many thanks for future help...
