I've tried reloading ALSA, uninstalling and re-installing ALSA, checking alsamixer to see if anything was muted (it wasn't). Tried disabling Auto-Mute and no joy (do I need to reboot in between changing this?)
I've tried opening pavucontrol, and everything seems normal there. Speakers is showing up.

I can get sound in my headphones using both speaker-test and YouTube videos.

It's a dual boot system with Win10, and the speakers work fine in Windows 10.
I'm at an absolute loss.
TIA!

So I didn't find a fix with Mint, but I tried to install Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS, and the Live version worked fine; I had full sound and bluetooth. Did the full install, and as with Mint, neither sound nor bluetooth worked. Started the install all over again from the Live USB, but this time, I completely disconnected from the internet so that no updates could be downloaded. The installed version worked perfectly. Did an update and a dist-upgrade and everything still works. I'm not sure if this process will work for Mint, and I'm too nervous that I'll botch the whole system again, so I think I'll quit while I'm ahead :P
