Just installed mint - no sound on speakers, but headphones do play


Pretty self-explanatory title.

Not really sure how to read or change these. I saw them in another thread and wanted to save time because I figured this was of interest in solving this problem.

Try running alsamixer from the command line and check that the Speaker volume is up at 100%. Report here on all the values listed.

Ok, thanks. That looks good to my untrained eye.

Have you gone into Mint's audio settings (Settings->Hardware->Sound) to see if the Output is set up correctly to Speakers?

Mint uses Pulse Audio, which sits on top of alsa. Install pavucontrol (the Pulse Audio mixer) and check the settings in it. It's in the repos.
