I tried sudo mseg -c again and now it shows nothing after entering password.
GPGAgent has the same or similar model and it connects as a flash drive but I have owned several SandDisk clip players and different models have different firmware and where one was Mass storage device the other was MTP.
lowering ATTR{max_sectors} value to 64 by following udev rule:
/etc/udev/rules.d/01-sony_walkman.rules
Perhaps mp3 is not being mounted because it doesn't have parameters?
Can we make parameters?
Debian treats MP3 player parameters identical to those it uses for the USB memory sticks?
That is a good point. I just assumed the OP is using the supplied USB cable which I would expect to be a data cable. I just read as well that you need to use Sony's application which would make the device not usable with linux.
If it isn't recognized i.e. in the output of dmesg or lsusb I don't know of anything or parameter that can fix that.
Are the charging cables always the smaller variety? I tried a different cable much longer (still not manufacturer's) and it's mounted. Thanks
You've been directed to the instructions from the manufacture which have steps to adjust on the device. And have been informed of a problem not using the supplied cable...yet seem to ignore both.
You were told to run "sudo dmesg -c" and THEN RUN "dmesg"...you apparently did not. You were advised to run "ls /dev/sd*" BEFORE AND AFTER plugging in the device. Did you???
We're trying to help, but ignoring things and only doing half of them won't get you much help.
It is the wiring of the cable, not the length that is important.
Glad you got it working.
It would be good if you could post the output of 'lsusb' when the player has been plugged and recognised. The internet seems to lack that information.
USB devices are registered by vendor and device IDs. 039c is the vendor ID and 0a51 the product ID. Although the Walkman is recognized as a mass storage device it isn't listed in the database.
