Question gmplayer sound issues

I have successful installed mplayer and I can run gmplayer but it can not produce any sound. I been trying to analys the problem and it seen it can not open audio device /dev/dsp. I am not sure what is causing the problem. It seem that when I runnig in the shell it falls back to the "arts" sound server. Why is it doing this? I did confige the GUI support during configuration. I don't believe that that's the problem. I do have to say that this is the 1.0 mplayer version. Could this be a bug? I need some inside info.
He is the shell output. Hopefully someone can help out.
Thank you.

hi,

just for test...
try to kill the arts server and start mplayer with "-ao oss" option...
if it works we FOUND the problem .... we didn't SOLVE yet ...
another try could be to be sure that /dev/dsp* are free : chmod 777 /dev/dsp ...
i agree that this is not the best way to solve that but you can figure out where the problem is...
Regards
