apps opened, but not displayed?

some apps (most file managers like nautilus, and other programs like giFToxic, giftui .. ) when i open them (from a command line of course) they just sit there, no window for this app is opened (like it should be, and on giFToxic it only opens a window if I'm root)

according to top the app is there, but it just wont display shit on the screen (and also it hogs up the terminal so i know its running, it just doesn't display anything, not even at least a error

anyone know what might be the problem? (I'm using gentoo)

Does these apps have any gui? I guess they dont...

they are supposed to, they don't display the GUI in X (like they are supposed to) and the don't write to the console either

ok, i think i found the problem...... darn firewall again (i set up a basic firewall that only allows established or related traffic thru, looks like ill be needing to change the settings sooner then expected)
