Where does the mail go?

Hi,

I am setting up a new mail system. However I'm having trouble configuring procmail and reading the mail with Sylpheed. fetchmail downloads the mail correctly. However, I cannot file where it downloaded the message! It is not in the /var/spool/user/mbox !! When I type mail, i receive a message saying there are no new messges!

I also am really confused about these files. Sometimes the download mail goes to /var/spool. Yet after I read it, it is automatically sent to ~/mbox. Then when I read that one with sylpheed, the mails go to folders. Is that the normal procedure? How am I going to track the files?

I also do not invoke procmail in any way. It is not a daemon either. Is procmail launched by fetchmail once there are new mails?

I am really confused.
Here I include the ~/.procmailrc file. the $HOME/mail folder is entirely empty!

PATH=/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin
MAILDIR=$HOME/mail
DEFAULT=$MAILDIR/inbox/new
PMDIR=$HOME/.procmail
LOGFILE=$PMDIR/log

Please help me!

Thanks a lot!

Hello,

I know this is old thread, but I have the same problem with my account. My shell account provider use maildir, according to the this provider's FAQ, mails are store in /.mail directory.
