Angry sendmail error Fetching mail could not lock /var/spool/mail/username

I'm getting an error in evolution software while receiving the mail in local delivery. The error is " error Fetching mail, Could not be lock /var/spool/mail/username xxx . I'm using sendmail and able to send & receive the mail with evolution if i try with POP3 instead of putting the setting in local delivery. what should i need to do to resolve this error for local delivery?
