PPPoE connection setup

Hello!

I just got SBC yahoo DSL. Everything is set up thus far, '/dev/eth0' is recognized. My problem is tech support said that I would have to use the cd that came with the package(modem..etc), use the installer that will do take me to a quasi webpage to choose from avail passwords and usernames. I did a seach and didn't find much( I *did* find someone on Gentoo using this ISP), I learned the connection is PPPoE, I found that I can use a program called Roaring Penguin to connect, but that would require for me to have password/username up front. What should I do, will tech support think it suspicious if I ask for my username/password from them up front without the installer...I have a feeling if I tell them I use Linux things would get ugly.

Welcoming any input...some tricks to fool tech support are also welcome.

Tarts.

{edit}

I installed windows 98, for some reason I forgot I could do that, I can now run the dumb program and get my username and password when my connection becomes avail on the 3rd. Somewhere during the process I forgot that windows requires the first partition on the drive :S. So...thanks for reading.

Just so you know ~ you dont *have* to install the software.

You can just go to the reg site and reg [without any software]

https://sbcreg.sbcglobal.net

[obviously you need a working connection - if not then call their tech support for a manual registration. NB: Make sure they spell properly the uid you choose.

NB: firebird did not have any luck displaying the bottom of these pages - I have not tried other linux browsers but I suspect the reg site was made just for netscape and ie.

When you get to the page that asks you to config your email you are done [unless you want it to setup outlook or something] as far as all important databases.

webmail is at :

sbc.yahoo.com

login to the site and complete/deselect your marketing preferences. then you should be fine from there on in.

Also here is a handy link - here you can find:

()EnterNet 100v1.300.000 (Linux) [pppoe connection software]
()Installation Guides
()Other drivers etc

url: download.pacbell.net
generic login: dslreguser
generic pwd: reguser
[or you can also use your own email addy and pwd to login]

I do not know what the linux version of EnterNet is like [windows is not too great] but I hope this helps. nb: Check and see if RAS do a linux version.
