Angry Cannot detect 3com etherlink III +noob

I'm a total linux newb so bear with me...

Im running and old pentium 155 with knoppix installed to the hard drive. Linux will NOT detect my network card which is a:

3Com Etherlink III

chipset: 3c509b

I've tried things with editing the module.conf file and the lilo configuration (although im not sure if the driver is compiled into the kernel) but it will not see the card. Ifconfig only shows lo with local loopback, obviously.

lspci:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corp. 430VX - 82437VX TVX [Triton VX] (rev 02)
00:07.0 ISA brdige: Intel Corp. 82371SB PIIX3 ISA [Natoma/Triton II] (rev 01)
00:07.1 IDE interface: Intel Corp. 82371SB PIIX3 IDE [Natoma/Triton II]
00:11.0 compatible controller: Trident Microsystems TGUI 9660/938x/968x (rev d3)

Any help towards getting this piece of crap to connect would be great.

Thanks

Well assuming you just mean the card, and not the network...

That model should be automatically supported. Have you tried modprobe 3c59x?

I tried it, says that there was no device found. Something about invalid IO and IRQ numbers I entered, any advice on how I find out what they are?

As in reference to another post on this forum:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...+network+cards

Read the HOWTO:
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/doc...WTO.html#ss2.1

You have to specify the IRQ and IO for your card. Hope that helps
