sound disappears by itself.. sounds a little strange..distro: FEDORA 8


HI,
I use a newly installed Fedora 8.Everything was working fine until I clicked on my volume control icon following which I wasn't able to hear any sound even after a reboot.

Here are somethings which would provide some info of my sound devices... etc.. etc

Output of /etc/modprobe.conf

From the evidence you have given me, there are 2 possible causes.

1. Check that your optical out isn't selected, you can find that on the switches tab of KMix

2. Sometimes your audio gets stuck in non-audio mode.

To verify 2:

on a konsole, as user, type in
Code:
iecset
Normal output:

Quote:
Mode: consumer
Data: audio
Rate: 48000 Hz
Copyright: permitted
Emphasis: none
Category: PCM coder
Original: original
Clock: 1000 ppm
If you see Data: non-audio

Try
Code:
iecset audio on
And see if that helps
