strange little thing appears and stays where mouse pointer disappears

I have installed Fedora Core 2 on my Sony VAIO FX705 laptop computer. Everything works fine, but with the install it couldn't probe my monitor. I selected a 1400x1050 LCD (the resolution I used on MS Windows) and it seems to work fine.

But there is always a little line on my screen, where the mouse pointer last disappeared. It stays there, also when I use the mouse again, just until the mouse pointer disappears again (for example when typing in a terminal window) and moves to the position the mouse pointer last was.

Am I making any sense here?

Anyways, please let me know if anyone experienced this, or even better, knows how to solve it.

Oh yeah, I executed /usr/sbin/ddcprobe:

Videocard DDC probe results
Description: ATI Technologies Inc. MACH64RM
Memory (MB): 7

Monitor DDC probe results
Monitor DDC probe failed.

PS anyone knows how to get a battery indicator?

Try this:

Open up a text editor and add this option to the display device section of your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 or XF86Config or xorg.conf, whichver it may be:

Code:
 Option "SWCursor" "on"
Try it with SWCursor on, try it off. This is an option that affects how the card renders the mouse cursor, and I think this is what you need to fiddle with.

Thanks man! That did it!

I added Option "SWCursor" "on" to the xorg.conf file and the thingy is gone!
