problems getting dell true mobile 1350 wireless card and ndiswrapper on (k)ubuntu

I have a dell D600 with the dell true mobile 1350 WLAN card. I looked through some earlier posts and found that someone asked the same question and there were step by step processes showing how to set it up. However, when I finished my wireless still didn't work. I think it's because when I go to system->settings->networking and try to activate the card, the computer works for a while and says it is active but when I hit ok, it works for even longer and goes away. When I bring the window back again, it says that the card is inactive. I used iwconfig and shows up with the card and my network info but says there is no signal at all.

I got ndiswrapper and loaded the broadcomm drivers and looked through them and the .conf file for my driver is there as well. I did a lspci and turns out that linux found the card. My kernel is 2.6.15-27-686 and I am running both ubuntu and kubuntu.
