Exclamation KDE is only showing one resolution

hey guys,

I just downloaded and installed the simplyMepis 6.0 distro, installed the new nvidia drivers and got the twinview mode going. The only thing I'd like to do now is run KDE at a higher screen resolution.

currently in KDE its set to 2048 x 768. In windows I use the extended desktop feature with my two screens, and run each monitor at 1280 x 1024. Anyway I can get a screen resolution closer to that with my MEPIS OS?

I've been doing a little bit of research into this as well, yes I have done the google thing. All that tells me I need to edit my xorg.conf file, but I'm having a bit of a hard time making sense of that file, I've got no idea what I need to do with it.

Heres a copy of it.

It's quite simple really.

The problem is with this portion of the file:
Code:

  SubSection "Display"
  Depth 8
  Modes "1024x768"
  EndSubSection
  SubSection "Display"
  Depth 15
  Modes "1024x768"
  EndSubSection
  SubSection "Display"
  Depth 16
  Modes "1024x768"
  EndSubSection
  SubSection "Display"
  Depth 24
  Modes "1024x768"
  EndSubSection
  SubSection "Display"
  Depth 32
  Modes "1024x768"
  EndSubSection
Wherever it says "1024x768" you need to add whatever resolution you want to use (I believe you said 1280x1024). When you're done it should look like this:
Code:
  SubSection "Display"
  Depth 8
  Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768"
  EndSubSection
  SubSection "Display"
  Depth 15
  Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768"
  EndSubSection
  SubSection "Display"
  Depth 16
  Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768"
  EndSubSection
  SubSection "Display"
  Depth 24
  Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768"
  EndSubSection
  SubSection "Display"
  Depth 32
  Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768"
  EndSubSection
And I would assume that since you're using two monitors you'd also have to change
Code:
  Option "MetaModes" "1024x768, 1024x768"
to
Code:
  Option "MetaModes" "1280x1024, 1280x1024"

sweet, thank you netraven you got my resolution problem fixed .

Now can you help me figureout why this line of code is doing nothing?

Code:
Option "MetaModes" "1280x1024, 1280x1024"
I know this line of code is supposed to stop fullscreen applications from spawning across both screens and over the split. However this is not the case. When I open a browser in windowed mode the start position is right in the split of my two monitors.

I've double checked with KDE settings, I've disabled the support it has for allowing the windows to be spawned on the split, the maximize spanning across two screens and same with fullscreen.

Its super annoying opening warcraft III only to see the flag on one screen, and the menu on the other :S.

Sorry, I've never tried using 2 monitors before so I can't really help you there.

Maybe nVidia has more info on their website. . . did you try there?
