Themes in GNOME and KDE not showing up

Ok, i'm stumped.

I've searched for about 2 hours and cant figure it out so i am going to go ahead and ask...

How do i get themes installed for either Gnome or KDE?

I've downloaded a theme for each to try out, but i can't get theme to show up in the theme control panel. I've tried install and the drag drop technique for Gnome but i still only get the pre installed ones. Blue Curve, etc.

This is in RH 9 by the way, if that makes any difference.

I'm looking for a dark theme, something like black and green. Or black and red. I'm tired of my linux looking so much like windows, i want it to be different so my friends dont keep saying "It looks just like windows, why should i use it?" Apparently looking just like another OS means it will have the same pitfalls and shortcomings to them.

Thanks in advance,

Nathan

Thought i would add that i also tried copying the folders containing the themes into /usr/share/themes still to no avail.

Maybe just a weird RH thing?

I'm thinking about buying the Mandrake boxed set, if i can find it in a computer store around here.
