The taskbar in KDE is not showing windows

I'm running KDE I'm not sure what version (I don't know how to find out, if someone can tell me how I will post it). It has stopped showing windows in the taskbar. It was set to show them from ever desktop. I tried removing .kde in my home directory but it didn't resolve the problem.

KDE Control Center -> Desktop -> Taskbar -> select "Show windows from all desktops.

its still set with the "Show windows from all desktops" selected. thanks though.
