Jumbled TV-out picture when starting and stopping video file

Hi,

I hope somebody could shed some light to my problem with tv-out. I have an HP laptop with S3 Inc. 86C270-294 Savage/IX-MV video card. I could switch back and forth between LCD and TV displays with the command "s3switch tv". However, if I switch to TV display, and then play a video file, such as "mplayer movie.avi" , the tv screen goes crazy as if the scan setting is wrong.

The movie is displayed fine, though, if I play the movie before switching to TV. But again, the TV screen will go crazy if I stop the movie.

I'm suspecting this might have something to do with playing video files at low resolution since I started X at 640x480 for TV-out. When movie.avi is played (with mplayer, vlc) the window width and height are both bigger than needed and the picture is at the top left corner of the window. But as I mentioned earlier, if I switch to TV after playing the video, the picture is displayed fine on TV (without the extra width and height)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Solved! X config issue, not S3 hardware

I guess I posted this question in the wrong section. This should be in the software one. Well, just in case somebody has similar problem with TV out, here's how I solved it. Instead of changing screen resolution from inside Ubuntu, I edited xorg.conf so that X starts in 640x480 resolution.
