Can you set up two sound cards in linux?


Hello
I am running Suse 10.2 and when I try to run vmware it says it can't access the sound since something else is. Can I set up another sound card at boot and config vmware to use the 2nd one. If so can I plays be informed how to

You have to first turn off esound, artsd, and many other software mixers. VMware uses OSS to handle sound. There is a wrapper for VMware, but it is for esound. Before starting a virtual machine that includes a sound card, make sure there are no programs using your sound card.

Yes, you can have infinite amount of sound cards in Linux, but the kernel limits to 256.
