"Broken Record" Sound, SUSE 9.1, VT823/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller...

Hey, I've searched these forums, and still haven't found a solution specific enough for my problem. It involves sound...

Ok, so, here's some info on what I'm using:
SUSE 9.1
Sound Card Model: VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller

Whenever I play sound, it plays the first part and then repeats that part like a "broken record" and won't stop. I hope that's clear enough...
Oh, also, the first time this happened, I just reinstalled. When I went to yast to test the sound, the first thing it said was, that the number of sound cards running was different from the amount in the configuration files (maybe not verbatum, but that's pretty similar to what it said).

I can't play any files with sound or anything, and when I go to yast2, it looks like everything is ok.

Thanks in advance,
Caleb.

got your aliases?
This fixed my AC97 problem in suse 9.1

"...Here's the example for this card. Copy and paste this to the bottom of your /etc/modules.conf file.

Note to debian users: You need to save this information into a file in the /etc/modutils/ directory (Eg. /etc/modutils/alsa) and run update-modules

# ALSA portion
alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-via82xx
# module options should go here

# OSS/Free portion
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0

# card #1
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss

but do check for detailed info on AC97 (on VIA chipset anyway) at

http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc...module=via82xx
