I am trying to play songs I ripped onto my computer, and grip created m3u files to play entire cds that I have ripped. Xine is working great for me, but I can't find an equalizer for it. Any ideas?

Well, I finally got xmms to work for me, which has been a problem. And I saw that there is an equalizer on there, but no matter how extreme I make the changes, the output doesn't sound that different.

any ideas?

The equaliser has an ON button at the top left in xmms? have you clicked it? it is off by default.

Yeah, thank you for the reply. I have clicked it, but I can't really tell a difference when I set the bands to extremes with it on. Maybe there is something else I am missing I don't know.

The only other thing i can think of and im no expert on xmms or linux in general is that the equaliser acts on the input into the buffer, so if you have your buffer set to 10 seconds you have to wait 10 seconds to hear the change. Your buffer might be set ridiculously high (20s? whatever). Put your buffer around 1 or 2 seconds so the change is more immediate.

Forgive me if i state the obvious:
Other things that could be is you could have REALLY nasty speakers that just dont respond at all. I have some pretty cheap and cheerful speakers but i can still hear the change. Also dont just put everything to extreme, thats what the volume is for, not the equaliser. Try pushing up the lower frequencies for a more bassy but hollow sound, or push up higher frequencies for clearer notes but a more "tinny" sound.
