I can hear mp3s but not CDs - help

Hi,

I ran sndconfig and it detected my sound card and I heard the sample. I ran XMMS and I can play my MP3s. However, when I play CDs in the CD player, it sees the CD but I don't hear anything.

I looked in audio mixer, and the CD slider is about half way and the mute box is unticked.

My CD audio works on my WinXP partition but I haven't got it working in Mandy 8.1 yet. Could someone provide a pointer?

Thanks,
keymoo

I don't have a cable running from sound card to cd-rom - is this a problem for linux? It works in windows.

Thanks,
Keymoo

win2k/XP can do digital audio extraction across the ide/pci bus. That means it don't need no analog audio cable. I really don't know if linux is capable of the same, I just use the audio cable to the sound card.

Plug in an audio cable and see if it helps, I always use one.

Not as far as I know...just ask at your local comp shop, they only cost a dollar in my neck of the woods.
