I've been wondering if me and you are the only two that are even close to working on this. I have CrystalSpace and I am looking for a decent tutorial for Blender (with none to be found as of yet). ...though this is being slowed because I'm looking for me a dam job in the electronics/computers arena, and there is none in my area.

Even if it goes dead now, it will later reappear. ...just like Ridley in Metroid--he's always behind everything Samus has to check out (except for one time, and that was an extermination run).

Wait wait! I'm here I'm here. I'm sorry i haven't been doing anything, i've just been having a some personal problems, which i'll hopefully get sorted out soon. But if we don't get organized this thing will die before it begins. First off, is this definitely going to be a CS like game?? As soon as we know for sure, i'm gonna start a new thread to get organized. In the meanwhile, i'll be trying (if i can find five gosh darned minutes to myself!) to get a handle on blender. Once we get everyone on board and jobs handed out, everyone will then be able to focus on learning/mastering whatever they need (c, c++, crystal space, blender whatever).

First we need a solid idea of what the game will be. I think it will be a multiplayer shooter, but what genre?? I'm kinda partial to cyber punk.

Everyone post, I don't want this to die! I want to make a kick a$$ game!

Yepps.. we need more games.. And we need a theme before we can start doing levels, models, graphics etc too. Organization?? Heck i'm an anarchist....
We'd better get organized and try to get together on irc or something to get things cleared out too.

i know i've been quiet lately too, School nearing the end with exams and a bo that's really strange behaving too... *sighs* Good news is that my box seem to be working now, allthough on a lousy line.... *will work on webpages later* At least IRC is working.

I'll work on my IRC-server from work today )
ha, finally something sensible to do at work... *jumps with joy*

yeah Im here too LavaDev - I don't think the thread will die however it is a good idea to get alittle more organised.

Are we agreed on the type of game [CS like fps]? If so - then great - if not then speak up!

Yes Blender is still stumping everyone. Honestly I have not had the chance to even try anything on it yet. This weekend I may crack down on it.
At this stage it is important to post tip if they figure anything out on it.

I was stuck on the key. I see that version 2.30 is released. I am running Blender vers 2.28c.

Does anyone know if the key needs to be installed on this version? If so can you post detailed instructions. I to not have "install key" as an option from FILE menu in the main blender app. Unless Im opening the wrong thing? What does it mean by the "publisher"?

Should we all upgrade to the same version and begin there?

What versions is everyone else running?

@ Mossy
I'm running the one i apt-get'ed with Debian stable

I'm still working on the irc-server and a eggdrop bot. (have complained about it in another post)
So at the moment i'm a bit tied up. Wondering wether i should keep the "dancer ircd" or switch to Bahamut instead.
Anyone with any tips etc. Specially for configurating it?

I'm going to put in the link here when i am sure that it's working, or was it under my URL?

Blender makes me sit and wonder where the H*CK is my magnifying glass.
I'm totally stumped, but i've gotten a tip about something called Moonlight that i downed this morning. I've not tried it yet. I'm also going to take a look at Terraform, might be good for making landscapes.

if you type in:

locate blender - it may tell you what file version it is in one of it's directories.
Or
blender --version
this will only work if the command is on your path. DO you need to run the command from it's location for it to work??
If so go to the directory and check the versioas stated in the readme's etc etc.

Hmmmmmm No clue from the locate part,,,
and blender --version (or any other version) gives me

"granskauen:~# blender -v
GLUT: Fatal Error in blender: could not open display:"

I'm on putty from work, so that message wasn't that bad :=)

apt-get install gives no version either :\

Be back with more info later

Wow. I'm on putty also - Locate blender should have ran a search for anything with blender in it. I can't imagine them not telling you waht version you are running. In mine the readme states. 2.2x or something like that ut I presume we already know that much if you just installed it. ah well.

i think we should NOT use 2.30. they said that the game engine part of the modeler (yes, there was one) isnt working w/ version 2.30. 2.25 looks fine, though.

Lavadev yeah I remember reading that when I installed it. I suppose I should downgrade then huh.

Should we make 2.25 our standard for now then???

Makes sense. I will uninstall and reinstall the older version possibly tonight.

I need the practice anyway. ...maybe we can mix and match our games. As far as my game, I'm thinking about having like a "firepower" fps where Tux, FreeBSD Daemon, Konqui, the Gnome mascot, etc. all are chasing my Rashtar. This may be a cross between like Unreal and Tribes with a deathmatch mode that I have though a little more on. However, the flavor wars idea does sound appealing. Like I say, I have Crystal Space downloaded. I more/less need people to help me with the process of developing the game, not necessarily with the coding, assembly, and production of the game. I'll do most of the work. Supervision would probably be the biggest help for me, as I just don't know how to actually make a fps game. ...as far as the 3D part, I mostly need someone to show me how to work Blender in some way. I can probably play with it once I get it responding in a recognizeable way to get my monsters.
