It seems to be OK now. The zlib problem is still there but I've found a fix for that: just configure the 32x build in a similar way to the corresponding build of ncurses. Stage 2 gcc builds OK now, isl and all. I think it was that intermediate rebuild of Stage 1 gcc that threw everything. And that was only necessary because I hadn't noticed that extra line in the glibc build. You need to concentrate so much!!

Your issue is now resolved in the latest svn update of the multilib book. Zlib is now removed entirely from Chapt. 6. and the Gcc pass2 option to use system zlib was removed. I noticed it because I'm building a new multilib system without 32-bit (just x86_64 and x32). I plan to run my 32-bit printer drivers from a 'mainstream' distro in Virtualbox. Just completed Chapt 8 Gcc with no issues. We will see how it goes.. There is a typo in 8.8.3. Building Glibc - x32bit: --with-headers=$LFS/usr/include should not have "$LFS". But LFS is undefined in the chroot so it works anyway.

So it really was an error. I though it was just me!

Yes, I noticed that one. I left the reference to $LFS out when I did it. There are also quite a few spelling mistakes.

My new multilib LFS-10 system is fine. I'm busy fleshing it out now.
