after a lot of work, I got to the stage where I have 9.1 Professional up and running. I got the modem working, but, as in the original post, when I logged out and restarted, no internet access.
I tried opening the speedtouch.conf as you suggest, but cannot seem to edit it, even when I log in at the start as root. I've looked at the folder permissions and it looks like I am the owner (as root) and can read, write and execute, so why can;t I seem to do so? It's worth mentioning I'm using Konqueror to browse to each of these files, unless someone can tell me how to navigate using the Shell Terminal and what commands to use (I can use cd to change directory, but again I get 'permission denied' if I try to open speectouch.conf.)
It's teken a lot of work to get here, and I'm blown away by 9.1 so if anyone can give me that last wee bit of help...
worth mentioning again, I did get the modem to work when I first ran the script, but it included one FATAL message related to your first reply to Hellaxe:
You may need to change some files to get it to work OK. Open /etc/speedtouch.conf in an editor and change the following -
QUOTE]You may need to change some files to get it to work OK. Open /etc/speedtouch.conf in an editor and change the following -
LOAD_USBCORE=1 to LOAD_USBCORE=0
and

Me again. I recently bought 9.1 update and got the same errors as the original poster, I tried your fix, but I forgot to change the LOAD USB_CORE=1 to LOAD USB_CORE =0 bit. What happened every reboot after that was th eADSL connection wouldn't start at boot or with /init.d/speedtouch start. prompt
when I logged off again I got the message when shutting the ADSL modem connections = 'Failed usb core still in use'.
Is this because i didn;t change the USB CORE part of speedtouch.conf as you mentioned?
Can you confirm you're running 9.1 PRO too, as I think this omission on my part is the only thing that's stopping me from updating again to 9.1 (I reverted back to 8.0 PRO and Internet access is fine)
To recap, first installing Speedtouch after 9.1 PRO worked fine, only on reboot did I start getting the Failed ADSL start message message, and 'FATAL usb core is in use' shutdown message.
8.0's great, but 9.1 is soooo much better looking, so ideally I want to upgrade, but only If i can get internet to work.
I have just configured my Speedtouch 330(Purple) modem on my laptop (running Suse 9.1 Pro) with KInternet. Took me I while but got there in the end. Found some issues that I thought I would share them!
After much messing about I found that it was due to the fact that the pppoatm module wasn't loaded.
Not sure if I should have but I have added the following line to the /etc/hotplug/usb/speedtouch file:
modprobe -k pppoatm
I did this just under the modprobe -k speedtch line.
Also I noted that the HOWTO states that the modprobe -k speedtch line should be changed to modprobe -k speedtouch, however on my machine this doesn't work but modprobe -k speedtch does!
