speedtouch 330 on SuSe 9.1

Hey,

I've installed my first linux distro 3 days ago (SuSe 9.1 personal), and while trying to set up my internet connection (first thing to do) I've had nothing but problems... so far I've found a lot of manuals for it.. and those would work if I wouldn't be missing the gcc compiler... appearantly it's also not on the cd (only the pro version would have it) a bit stupid I think! but anyways, I go out and search for the gcc rpm, I found it rather quickly, but then it starts giving me dependencie problems... then glibc-devel is not availlable, so I start looking for that too... but when I install that... glibc is also needed... and now I have the problem dat I can't find a glibc rpm for SuSe (glibc version should also be at least 2.3+)... I don't understand why it's that hard to get just one thing working... but it could also just be that the personal version is maybe a bit too linux light...

so my question is... does anybody know of an easier way... cause I'm going kinda *head banging against the wall* right now...

Here is a link of international ftp sites: hxxp://www.suse.com/us/private/downl...t_mirrors.html

If you navigate to:

xtp://mirror.storagetek.com/pub/syst...i386/9.1/suse/

You'll find the gcc packages.
File: gcc-3.3.3-41.i586.rpm
File: gcc-c++-3.3.3-41.i586.rpm
File: gcc-g77-3.3.3-41.i586.rpm
File: gcc-info-3.3.3-41.i586.rpm
File: gcc-java-3.3.3-41.i586.rpm
File: gcc-locale-3.3.3-41.i586.rpm
File: gcc-objc-3.3.3-41.i586.rpm

Install (i think File: gcc-3.3.3-41.i586.rpm ) with YaST.

Its been a while since I've installed it but YaST should tell if you need another packages.

Hello CH,

I've had the same problem. I known the page you're refering to in your last post. Did you use the speedtouchconf.sh (which worked for me fine in my old SuSE 8.2)? When I try this on 9.1 I get your problem of not having gcc (or make) installed.

Donald
