Hello Guys,
This is my first post and i am very happy to be in such community.
I am using about 2 months Linux , i am not so experienced but i know the basics. Now that i found which Linux distribution suits well in my old Desktop , I also need to find one for my Laptop that I use almost all day.
I need the following :
To be able to choose from the installation the XDM
To be able to choose from the installation the LXDE
I DO NOT care for the following :
If it has live CD
If it has or not graphical install
....................................................
It would be nice if it is Debian based but i don't mind if it is not.
If there is no such Linux Distribution advice me something similar.
Grab the Debian netinstall CD, do a minimal installation and install XDM and LXDE instead of any of the alternatives. http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/432 tells how to do a minimal install.
Hello XavierP,
I had already seen this website...
The problem with this is that if i stop the installation where it asks m for a network mirror then i wont have grub installed and i wont be able to boot windows 7.

I've been a debian user since Etch and I've almost always done minimal installs and I have no idea why you would quit at that point. You should pick your mirror and continue to install. When it gives you a checklist for the installation, you just select "Standard System" and "laptop" if you have a laptop. From there, just continue on. It will install grub and allow you to boot. (You might have to boot to debian and run "update-grub" as root.)
This is give you a minimal installation. From there, you can edit the repositories and use apt/aptitude to get the applications you want.
