Thinking about what would happen if you placed two portals on the floor next to each other (with an Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device of course ), and poured a liquid (such as water) into one of them.

Wouldn't the liquid eventually stabilize and form a thin film over both portals? Or would you just have a perpetual motion of the liquid going from one portal to the other (because of gravity equally compensating on either side of the portal)?

I know portal physics are very strange (and, at least according to current physics, impossible), but I think it's fun to think about.

Probably, the water on one side would push up on the water on the other side.

It can't go perpetually because of air resistance. I think this it what would happen until it stabilizes into a film.

About what I figured. Although it would probably take a long time for it to stabilize then, if it's poured from a significant height.

Here's another one (I saw this on a fan message board): Assuming portals are movable, what if you were to put both portals onto two large boards just large enough to fit each one, and try to place one in the other?

The (rather intriguing) explanation:

Basically it would turn into a fractal of sorts. As the first portal (let's say the blue one) is being inserted into the orange one, it would start to come out of itself, which in turn would have another "copy" coming out of it, ad infinitum. Although each "copy" would be half the previous one's size, so you wouldn't be able to see them into infinity or anything like that.

I'm getting a definite "Hotel California" vibe here. "You can log out any time you like, but you can never leave..."

As far as what I'm doing right now....I'm trying really hard to get my mind off of "Chicken Fried Bacon"

If this is a real thing I NEED to know. My Dr. wants to put me on cholesterol lowering meds and we're supposed to discuss it Monday, so I am eating everything that I might feel guilty about later, prior to him actually writing the prescription!

My pet peeve; # 364: When people are talking about Ubuntu, they feel some strange need to capitalize every letter, like so: UBUNTU. No, no, no! It's not UBUNTU, it's Ubuntu.

What am I doing now?

-- Contemplating reiserFS...still...

-- #2

-- Googling portal physics...Thanks MrCode...albeit it is interesting

Ooh and I just made up a riddle thingy;

What does Antarctica, speed and the value "0.95 %" have in common?

Right now I'm wishing I had a time machine, and go back so long ago. There's one person I'd like to shake his/her hand, or whatever gesture of thanks that would exist in their culture.

I don't know what kind of mind would have thought of it, or what spiritual reasoning there was for this person to have done what they had done, but it's the greatest thing that mankind has ever found a use for.

Just to imagine, at some point, such a long time ago. This person looked at these particular berries that had particular kind of seed. Then this person, by some method unknown, decided to make a drink from this seed, that most likely had to be boiled.

Either way, I know I can't time travel. I know I'll never meet that person, and since I'm an atheist and don't believe in an afterlife. Therefore all I can do is raise my cup of coffee in honor of that unknown person who gave us that wonderful, black, tasty, eye popping, nerve rattling, delightful drink.

Here's to you, whoever you were...
