@ brianL - just checking that you didn't venture too far north today (into the line of fire) and that you are well and that your pithy and witty comments will continue to dominate this thread.

Now I'm making little water-like ripples all over my screen, LOL

I am coming to the realization that ssh is probably my absolute favorite discovery since coming to linux. I'm not sure what it CAN'T do. It seems like every time I start to play with it I find something that is suddenly so simple I'm amazed that I ever did things another way.

Okay, fun-time's over with the water plugin...

I know you guys are gonna think I'm all too paranoid for this (), but:

The pseudo-random noise in the waves generated is disturbingly convincing... *sigh*

EDIT: Okay never mind, I'm seeing kind of a pattern... *wipes forehead*

Mate ... you need a long holiday, away from technology of
any kind or something like that. Have a good long hike
(8-10days?) w/ a good friend in the bush.

No, I think he's right...I need to get out for a good long while.

Maybe I'll find a solution to this whole problem on my own. Maybe all I need to do is just not think about it for a while, and the solution will come to me naturally; I don't know.

I want it to be one way, but I can't help but see things another way...that's what's got me so all up in conflict about it. Perhaps taking some time off will allow me to see things the way I want them to be for a change.

Anyways, I think I'll at the very least just not post to this thread anymore for a while, even if I feel like I really need to. I need some time off from General, I think.

EDIT: Another thing: to be honest, I don't think I was letting all of my opinions show in the "sci/tech scare me lately" thread. I held myself back because I probably have opinions/views of the world that people would automatically use to label me as a "nut", or "crackpot", or some other derogatory label.

People that want what they have are generally happier than people that get what they want.

Now *that* was a convoluted way of describing "content" [disambiguation]adj.[/disambiguation]. ;D

It all depends ... on your age, for instance. For teenagers
this kind of thought is perfectly normal since it's part of
growing up, and finding ones place in the world (unless of course
it drives you to depression and -ultimately- suicide). If you're
in your mid-thirties and still going on about that kind of stuff
all the time (not over a glass [bottle, case, ...] of wine with
your friends once in a while) you're a nutcase. If you are in
your mid-thirties, and get PAID for that kind of thinking you're
a nutty successful author or professor of philosophy. ;D

Cheers,
Tink

(I know I said I wouldn't post here again, but I just wanted to respond to this real quick before I go)

I do think that this is part of my "growing up" (I'm 18), but I'm not sure if it's in the same way you're talking about...that's all I have to say on that topic.

As for depression/suicide, no, I don't think this will lead me to suicide. I know I was talking about "gun-related" stuff in the other thread, but I think that was just my melodrama. I do tend to overreact sometimes when someone disagrees with what I'm saying.

IMO I seem to be handling myself pretty well, so hopefully I will see a brighter future down the road.

Anyways, what I'm doing now: signing off.

On a less thought provoking note, I just spent 3 hours getting a program to build only to find that it is a very poor version compared to the version I already had installed. I guess the getting there is the fun, but jeez.........
