DarkXstar-

You are perfectly welcome to like or dislike linux for what ever reason you find applicable. Clearly you've had some problems and it's not mine or any body else's place to tell you it's your fault, your hardwares fault, linux's fault, the alignment of the planets....

The issue that some forum members have with threads such as this (and I can only speak for my self here) is why not just go back to windows and NOT post a diatribe about YOUR experience and apply it to the OS in general. While you are not alone in you troubles, there are plenty here who have had different experiences. Posts such as yours smack of getting in a "parting shot" or at the very least trolling, which frankly deserve whatever flames they stoke

Do these kinds of posts show up on Windows BBS I wonder? I didn't post on any Windows BBS about leaving Windows when I switched to Linux. Surely I would get more sympathetic ears bitching about Microsoft on a Linux board than the other way around.

I think he would get much more sympathy on a Windows support BBS.

I think there are just a few people that think it funny to do this under different names. Possibly just one or two.

you know, one of my pet peves is people who make judgements without really knowing what they are talking about, i used to think linux was an intimidating beast of an os that i'd never be good at (although i was always anxious to prove myself wrong), that was until i tried linux, the installer was almost as easy as dos/windows/mac and i rarely crash, linux is supperior to windows in many ways, in others windows has the upper hand, but i've been using linux for YEARS and still have ALOT to figure out, so a few months is still pretty ignorant no offence DarkXtar but until you've tried, learned THEN keep failing, just keep trying, and if you give up, there's no shame, just don't come here and yell it in our virtual ears, ok?

p.s. if you want to ask for help on any question with linux, you are welcom to ask it here in a civil tone, althought there is no guarantee your question will be something that can be answered, that is just the nature of things.... one last thing, if you do leave... dont' let the dore hit you in the rear on the way out and if you want to come back you're always welcome ....

Well, later on I'm sure I'll read this over, it's a book in the making. Just thought I'd chime in and say "have fun" with whatever OS you choose.

Cool

I was reading trough all these post and I just go to say something to the thread starter.
So let me get this right, you are bashing linux because your hardware isn't supported. So tell me, in windows, who makes the drivers for hardware, the folks at Redmond, or the device manufacturers. I'm guessing the latter. On the contrary, in linux, the community has to make most of the drivers. And considering how much different hardware there is out there, and that the community hasn't have million dollar budget (unlike the makers drivers in on windows) I say the community has done a damn good Job. And it really pisses me of to see people like you make unfair comparisons.
At to top it all you, why the hell did you use slackware on you fist try of linux? That's about the newbie unfriendliest distro out there.
So you are bashing linux, because you failed to install hardware that isn't supported BY THE MANUFACTURERS on a distro that isn't meant for you. Can you belive this guy?!

dude, lexmark is junk, and I'm sorry you bought it, I'm also sorry your going to go back to windoze. It's a shame you could not find a distro that worked for you. I was a red hat user for many years and was about to give up on linux and go back to windoze myself. I decided to try Mandrake upon my buddy's suggestion, and I not only used it but I totally replaced windoze with it. Now I'm giving Gentoo a shot. As for the Lexmark, I have a z42 and it sucks in windoze and in linux. Their linux support is lacking to say the least.

As for coming into a hardcore linux forum and telling everyone linux sucks and your going back to windoze... what kind of response did you expect??
If you went to a windoze forum (never seen any, but I assume they are out there) and said the same thing but reversed... would you be flamed as well?

Probably not nearly as much. Why? Because all the people there who know a thing or 2 would be proud to send a little wintendo-ite off into a better life

Cool

You hit it on the head...these posts aren't people who want help, clearly. They are trolls...they want exactly the reaction this thread gave them and they chuckle to themselves on a job well done.

If on the off chance the starter of this post WAS sincere, well then he's simply a dramaqueen getting off on the attention anyway (same result...trollage).

Fact is, if someone is serious about something like this, makes a firm decision that they do not like linux at all and won't do the job for them, they don't need to trumpet it period. They simply leave...

If you doubt me....check on the number of posts MOST of these supposed linux-users have....an awful lot of them have very few posts, to me this says that they didn't even TRY to get the fine help available on this board.

I have learned alot about this board and its members in this thread. A guy is frustrated by Linux and says he is going back to Windows. Suddenlty there are all kinds of things wrong with him. He is a troll. He is an arse for buying Lexmark. He is bashing the finest OS in the world. Or things are wrong with everybody else in the world. Manufacturers don't supply drivers. Or everybody does it. The folks at Windowsbbs would do the same thing. Nobody is interested in finding out exactly what went wrong with his Linux experience or why.

I'll keep checking back to see if you guys grow up and to find specific answers to specific questions. I'll keep my mouth shut when I come. No use wasting our valuable time. Bye.

Wow 3 whole posts? Did you browse 2 more message threads too?

I mean what do you expect, personally I think the growing up needs to be done by the originator of the board and maybe by yourself.

Waste YOUR valuable time? How about the time that the many fine people and moderators use to help people...on a volunteer basis, because they love linux?

I don't think its immature to state that if you want help and are willing to learn, we're willing to help, but if you can't be bothered to try and just lash out we'll get upset...how is that immature? Frankly by any definition of troll, the origin of the thread qualifies. If he was sincere again I must ask, WHY bash linux to people who clearly love linux? Why? The only reason we can see is to illicit a negative response...

Personally I wouldn't say he's an arse for buying anything...but I say he's an arse because leaving linux wasn't enough...he's got to take pot shots at people who really love linux...to me THAT'S immature.

Maybe we failed to help him, I mean he's got a whole what...36 posts? Maybe we couldn't help him...that's fine...we're not gods, most of us are passionate newbies...maybe his hardware isn't supported...fine, that's a problem we know about linux...his reaction isn't to go back to windows its to basically do this (I paraphrase):

"Hey guys, I'm going back to windows..Linux SUCKS, windows is better...Bye bye"

Yeah...and *I*'m immature for thinking HIM an arse.

ok, this really isn't getting anyone good press. There is precious little to be gained from "goodbye" posts other than to deliberately cause "controversy", and this is just a boring argument, so we'll close it now. thanks.
