display linux desktop on windows

I've got a linux server and a windows client. I want to be able to bring up an X-windows program, being run on the linux server, but control it and see it from the windows client. I know there's some great free software, just can't remember what it's called... and an hour of googling has left me empty-handed!

Thanks,
David

Turn on x11Forwarding in your sshd_config file - there's a section in here that talks about X Forwarding.

Edit: or wait, did you mean you'd like to control the whole desktop, not just a single application? If you're looking for the whole desktop and don't mind VNC, might I recommend x11vnc? It's one of the (only?) very few VNC servers that lets you access :0, the default, already-in-use desktop, rather than creating a new one for each incoming connection.

XLiveCD does just what you want and it's free.

that's it!

"VNC" -- thanks so much! "RealVNC" is the particular one I had looked at before; but I'm now investigating the others...
